STEAM methodology in the development of scientific competences in basic education

Abstract
The general objective of the article was to evaluate the perspective of the STEAM methodology in the development of scientific competences in basic education and as specific objectives, to analyze the reality of scientific competences, describe the transdisciplinary approach and analyze the characteristics of the STEAM methodology, A qualitative approach was used from the hermeneutical and bibliometric perspective and with a document analysis strategy, it is based on the review of journals of scientific articles indexed by Scielo, Dialnet, Latindex, Redalyc, Redib and multidisciplinary and specialized databases. The results show that the integrality, contextualization, transdisciplinarity, purpose and dynamism in the learning generated by the STEAM methodology, seek to form autonomous students, capable of communicating, working collaboratively and developing investigative, social and personal skills that help to understand the changing world and respond to challenges by articulating their learning in the different curricular areas. Therefore, the STEAM methodology constitutes a powerful didactic strategy very useful for natural sciences since it contributes to the development of critical, creative and scientific thinking.
